Common Garage Door Remote Questions
My garage door starts to close, but then reverses
Something could be blocking your sensor. All garage doors made after 1993 have a safety sensor that prevents the door from closing all the way if there’s something underneath it.
Check around your sensor and under the door to make sure there isn’t anything in the way.
My garage door won't open if I use the wall button
First, check to see if your remote is working properly. If it is, there may be a connection issue between your button and your garage door.
My garage door won't open if I use the remote
Your remote may either need new batteries or need to be replaced.
I can't open my garage door with the remote or wall button
Make sure your motor is receiving power. If the motor is plugged in, your garage door opener may need to be fixed, or you could need a new remote control or wall button.
My garage door remote only works half the time
If it seems like your garage door has a mind of its own, your problem may not be with the remote or wall button.
First, Try These Easy DIY Fixes
There are a few garage door remote issues that homeowners can easily and safely fix themselves. Before you get stressed about the possibility of extensive repairs, check to make sure you aren’t dealing with one of these common problems.
Drained Batteries – This is one of the most likely reasons your garage door remote has stopped working, and luckily, it’s also the easiest to fix! Try replacing the remote’s batteries to see if that gets it working again.
A Locked Door – Check to see if the lock button on the wall-mounted control panel for your garage door has been activated. This is often easy to lock on accident – all you need to do is press the lock button again to disengage it.
Reprogrammed Remote – The link between your opener and remote can occasionally become broken with frequent use and require reconnection. Look up your manufacturer’s directions for reprogramming your remote.
